Sie sind süß, weich und einfach zum Knuddeln – Meerschweinchen und Kaninchen.
Da sich diese beiden Arten untereinander aber nicht verständigen können, sollten Meerschweinchen mit Meerschweinchen und Kaninchen mit Kaninchen gehalten werden. Sowohl die Langohren als auch die putzigen Schweinchen gehören zu den Nagetieren und leben gern gesellig in Gruppen. Sie vertreiben sich den Tag mit futtern, nagen und der Fellpflege.

So sind Meerschweinchen Nestflüchter – Ihre Jungtiere kommen nach einer Tragzeit von ca. 68 Tagen voll entwickelt auf die Welt. Die Kleinen können bereits am ersten Tag laufen, haben am ganzen Körper Fell und futtern schon nach kurzer Zeit das leckere Essen von Mama mit. Kaninchen hingegen sind Nesthocker. Der Nachwuchs stellt sich bereits nach einer Tragzeit von ca. 30 Tagen ein, die Kleinen sind aber noch völlig hilflos. Nackt, blind und taub kringeln sie sich im plüschigen Nest und werden von der Mutter versorgt. Erst mit ca. 2 Wochen schauen sie das erste Mal aus dem Nest heraus und beginnen dann langsam, die Welt zu erkunden.

Mláďata se rodí již po 30 dnech březosti, ale jsou ještě zcela bezmocná. Nahá, slepá a hluchá mláďata se choulí v plyšovém hnízdě, kde se o ně jejich matka stará. Teprve ve věku asi dvou týdnů se poprvé podívají ven z hnízda a pak pomalu začínají objevovat svět.
