Das Coburger Fuchsschaf vom Aussterben bedroht ? Nun, keine Angst. Das klingt gefährlicher als es ist. Heute stirbt hier niemand. Aber in der Tat gibt es alte Haustierrassen, die man heute kaum noch sieht und eventuell bald ganz verschwunden sind. Das wäre in der Tat sehr schade, gilt es doch das alte Erbmaterial und alte Gene für weitere Zuchten in sämtlichen Haustierhaltungen zu bewahren und für Blutauffrischungen zu erhalten. So gibt es heute eine Gesellschaft zu Erhaltung alter und gefährdeter Haustierrassen, die sich dieser Problematik angenommen hat.
Die Herkunft des Namens des Fuchsschafes ist unschwer zu erraten, schaut man sich den Fuchsfarbenen Kopf und die Beine des Schafes an. Die Jungtiere sind gänzlich braun.
Auch wenn Schafe als gutmütige Tiere angesehen werden, würden wir dringend davon abraten das Gehege zu betreten. Der Schafbock wird keine Zeit verlieren einen zu Boden zu werfen.

Že prý coburským červeným (liščím) ovcím hrozí vyhynutí? Tak to žádný strach. To zní hrozněji, že tomu ve skutečnosti je. Dnes tu neumře nikdo. Existují však stará plemena domácích zvířat, která dnes již téměř nejsou k vidění a možná brzy úplně vymizí. To by byla opravdu velká škoda, protože je důležité zachovat starý genetický materiál a staré geny pro další chov ve všech chovech domácích zvířat a uchovat je pro doplnění krve. Dnes existuje společnost pro ochranu starých a ohrožených plemen domácích zvířat, která se tímto problémem zabývá.
Původ názvu červené resp. liščí ovce není těžké uhodnout, pokud se podíváte na načervenalou barvu hlavy a nohou těchto ovcí. Mláďata jsou celá hnědá.
Přestože jsou ovce považovány za dobromyslná zvířata, vstup do výběhu důrazně nedoporučujeme. Beran nebude ztrácet čas a srazí vás na zem.
